Oh dear, the air turned blue this afternoon! A bird decided to wish Robbie good luck from a great height - and it scored a direct hit. Thankfully he wasn't wearing a suit but he was wearing a new top and to say that he wasn't amused would be an understatement. He was more than usually eloquent, well maybe not eloquent but certainly verbal. He lapsed into alliteration on a theme of 'B'; he has been practicing practicing on the cats so he is fairly good at it now and he produced a string of expressive but not exactly original 'B' words. I don't know what type of bird it was, but judging by the mess it created it certainly wasn't a sparrow!
Anyway, back to more important matters, Robbie made his announcement on facebook today, so I am now free to reveal his new ventue

To the Beach

Monday 31st May
We spent the day without Robbie because he was still in a strop and spent most of the day curled up on the bed wallowing in his bad mood. His loss, I had a lovely day. After a walk up to the shop I sat at the table outside to eat my breakfast and`then to write some postcards. It was so peaceful, I could look out at the beautiful view and watch the antics of the blackbirds who were singing loudly to mark out their own territory. We spent a lovely time on the beach, I wandered down to the rock pools and even dipped a toe into the sea, the water was cold but beautifully clear.
Later in the day we drove to Constantine to post the postcards and have a look at the shop. Sam has worked his way through his box of cereal already so he needed more and we bought some scones to enjoy with a nice cup of tea, I am not usually keen on Cornish cream but a little bit with jam on a scone is rather nice.

It took most of the day, but Robbie eventually got out of his strop and was forgiven

Look Who Came Down the Chimney!

I first wrote about the bird that came down the chimney over two weeks ago. We could hear the scratching and fluttering but despite pulling out the furniture and opening up the sealed off fireplace we could not free the bird. It seemed to be stuck on a ledge about a foot above the fireplace and there was nothing I could do to get it out. Robbie didn't seem too bothered about it, but every night I would lay awake in bed listening to it scratching and wondering what more I could do to save it. I had almost given up hope, but at lunchtime on Saturday there was an almighty bump and the most enormous pigeon landed with a thud in the fireplace. The poor thing looked rather tatty, but I am amazed that it survived. It eventually flew around the room a few times and we threw the window open to allow it to escape. It didn't seem too keen to redescover the great outdoors so we left it shut in the bedroom with the windows open and when we went back an hour or so later it was gone.

Things That Go Bump in the Night
While Robbie was sleeping on the sofa bed (he claims to have no recollection of Friday evening and he slept like a log - a very noisy log!) I was upstairs trying to identify a rather odd echoing noise. I eventually concluded that a bird had come down the chimney so on Saturday morning much to Robbie's annoyance I moved furniture, uncovered the fireplace and did all I could to liberate the bird. Robbie was scared and hid behind the door! Unfortunately I couldn't free the bird, but I have left the chimney open in the hope that it will find it's way out. Robbie is not amused, I think he is afraid that the bird will get into bed with him, but I imagine the poor thing has had enough shocks for one lifetime!

A Quiet Life - I Wish!

I love animals and I couldn't imagine not having pets, but I am starting to think that they are giving me a hard time this week. With Robbie away I intended to enjoy the peace and quiet and make the most of being able to get up a little later, unfortunately when it comes to being noisy early in the morning Robbie has some rivals. At about 5.15am every morning a group of Canada geese fly over on there way from one lake to another and they honk loudly. It is nice that we have two beautiful parks within walking distance and it is nice that they attract wildlife, but why do they need to get up so early! Yesterday it was so loud that I am sure each bird looked into the open window and hooted extra loud as they went past. At least the geese go away, the crow that hangs out in the tree opposite my bedroom window stays there for hours on end making the most dreadful noise, leaving me in bed wide awake thinking of ways to silence a crow!
When I went out to put the bins out early in the morning a bird flew into my face as I walked back towards the house. It really hurt, I hope the bird was OK, I think it was a starling or something of that size, it flew off before I could get a good look at it.
The cats have been causing trouble too, Oreo jumped out of Laura's bedroom window onto the paved area of the garden below. I was terrified, I expected him to be badly injured or dead and I raced downstairs to get to him. I opened the back door and he strolled in looking completely untroubled by his adventure. Not to be outdone by the cats Megan also made her presence felt, she rolled in something unspeakable and she stank. When I mentioned the 'B' word she looked pathetic, I washed the offending area, but I decided to postpone her bath until Sunday - Robbie can do it!
