A Slow Learner

Robbie left at 6am as usual and I will not see him again until Sunday evening. He had to choose between me and a train and it was no contest – the train won! He promised me that after this weekend I will have his undivided attention until February, I doubt that somehow but we will have to wait and see. He was funny yesterday evening, he knew he was pushing it a bit by going away for another weekend , so he was trying to be helpful by doing a few jobs without being asked. It was much appreciated but he spoiled it by getting the words wrong. He said, “I have done a few jobs for you so that you don't have to do them at the weekend” he didn't spot the warning look on my face and he went on “I have done a couple of loads of washing for you, I did my shirts and a few other things”. How is that for me???? I don't have a contract making the housework my exclusive responsibility, and if he decides to wash his shirts he is doing it for him not for me! I think he was expecting me to be grateful, but if he thinks I am going to spend my weekend doing housework while he goes out to play he is deluding himself - poor Robbie! Now if he would finish mending the fence I would be more than grateful, I would be overjoyed!

Difficult Decisions

Robbie was late home on Friday evening, but when we settled down after our evening meal and I was just looking forward to a whole weekend with Robbie when he received a text. The rail tour company had a last minute mini tour and Robbie had been offered the chance to go on it. I asked him where it was and I could hardly believe my ears when he said it was from Glasgow to Fort William and back. It would have involved Robbie travelling to Scotland on Saturday afternoon and he would have had to catch a very early train to get back to work on Monday morning. He was very tempted and I had resigned myself to yet another Robbie free weekend, but even Robbie could see that it was madness. We were due to have lunch and tea with my mum on Saturday and he didn't want to miss out, so very reluctantly he turned down the trip. He may as well have gone because he has talked about little else all weekend. As soon as I woke up this morning he showed me his mobile phone, he had been sent a picture of the train leaving Glasgow!

Difficult Negotiations

When I got home from work this evening Robbie had steak and chips waiting for me, it was lovely but I couldn't help wondering what he had done – I don't usually get that sort of treatment. I know Robbie well enough to know that I wouldn't have to wait long to find out what was on his mind, and before I had even finished my meal he announced that there is a rail tour from Wolverhampton to Cleethorpes called the Meridian Mariner that is due to take place right in the middle of our holiday in Norfolk. and he disparately wants to go! I can't say I'm overjoyed about it, but he can go if he wants to. There is just one thing he needs to understand – it will cost him much more than steak and chips!!

Robbie Makes Demands

Robbie finally got home from his weekend playing trains. To be more accurate he got as far as Rugby and got stranded, so I had to go and rescue him. He chatted almost non stop about his weekend and as usual the food seemed to interest him almost as much as the trains. We had a busy afternoon and evening but in a quiet moment Robbie demanded an early night - so that we could watch railway DVD's in bed!! A company called MD Rail Productions has produced a DVD of The Spitfire Railtours Cumbrian Coast Explorer and Wey-farer tour, and Robbie was very keen to watch the DVD. Here is a link to the Spitfire Railtours DVD. He also had his latest British Transport Films DVD to watch so it looked as if we were in for a long evening.

Our early night didn't materialise, but when Robbie came to bed at about 12.25am he woke me up and demanded that I stay awake to watch the DVD's. I managed to watch a film called Travelling Intercity, when the next one about the design of the HST came on I couldn't keep my eyes open and I had to settle down to sleep. I don't know how much he watched, but when I woke at half past three he was sleeping soundly, still clutching the DVD case. I think there may be another night of railway videos in store!!
