Forgiven

Robbie is more or less forgiven for being a pain on Monday evening. I say more or less because he has this annoying habit of making a half apology, that sort of cancels out the apology. He will look defeated and say "OK, I'm sorry, but what I was trying to say was...........". It makes me so cross, I already know what he was trying to say, because he will have said it at least 10 times, but repeating nonsense doesn't make it less stupid and it doesn't make me see things his way!

I had loads of work to do last night and I didn't get to bed until 2am, it was so cold last night, but I didn't want to leave the heating on all night because we get too hot, so I put my dressing gown on top of the duvet over my feet. I was almost asleep when 'Bigfoot' came to bed, I was vaguely aware of him clomping around the bedroom. I don't know what he was talking about, but he was talking loudly. I must have dozed off because suddenly Robbie was in bed and my feet were cold - he had taken my dressing gown away and hung it up. A battle followed and eventually he grudgingly got out of bed and replaced my dressing gown. He moaned because it looked untidy. That is a bit rich coming from Mr Messy - he leaves a trail of clutter wherever he goes!

Getting Naked 25.02.08

Robbie caused consternation at work this morning when one of his colleagues found discarded clothing on and around his desk. They had conjured up images of an intruder who got into the office at the weekend just to get naked and zoom around on the swivel chairs but the truth was a little more down to earth. Robbie had changed at work on Friday before heading off to Liverpool to see his beloved Royal Scots Grey. He assures me that he changed in private and he didn't do a Homer and stalk through the open plan office in his knickers, he just carelessly abandoned his clothing on someone's desk. That must have been an incredible start to his week for his colleague, turning up to work on a Monday morning to be confronted by Robbie's washing!

On the subject of washing, I have won my battle with the European Washing Mountain and all Sam's belongings have been washed, ironed and put away. The washing machine nearly had a nervous breakdown, but it is finally done - until the next time. Our own little 'Mr Trebus' has wasted no time in cluttering up his bedroom again since he got back from Austria - I found two pots of honey up there today. I heard on the radio that due to longer lasting paint they will finally be able to take a break from painting the Forth Bridge. Unfortunately bringing order to Sam's bedroom looks as if it will be a never ending task for many years to come.

Robbie was late home tonight, and when he finally turned up he couldn't stop talking about the N word - Network Rail! Do you think they have ever been named as the other party in divorce proceedings before - or will ours be the first?!

Clear Desk - Or Not? 27.03.07

At the weekend I gave Robbie a bit of a hard time regarding the state of his desk at work. After some initial reluctance he succumbed to a little bribery and he agreed to sort it by Wednesday morning. When he arrived home yesterday he said the job was complete, I expect the poor desk will be a bit sensitive to daylight after this long! I threatened to send him with a duster and polish this morning so that he could put the final touches to it. When I was at school we used to have to take a duster and polish in on the last day of each term to clean our desks, of course they were the old fashioned sort of desks with lids and real inkwells. The highlight of each new term was being issued with a pristine piece of pink blotting paper, by the end of the first week it would be tatty and disreputable, but that didn’t seem to matter. New exercise books evoked just as much pleasure, but they were marred all to soon by the inevitable inkblot or spelling mistake. In those dim distant days we didn’t even imagine computers, spell checks and all the other wizardry that we now take for granted. Anyway that’s enough nostalgia for now. Can anyone confirm that Robbie really has tidied his desk?

Information Overload 20.01.07

Here is part 2 of Sam's description of Robbie. They are incredibly alike in so many ways, but of course neither of them would admit it!

Robbie is always moaning at me because I am untidy. I am a bit disorganised, but he is untidy too and he never admits it. He puts everything in piles all over the place and he hates throwing things away. He has piles of magazines everywhere and there are trains taking over the house. Just because I don't put my stuff in piles like he does he moans at me for being untidy. Mum moans at him about his magazines sometimes and if she is really cross she calls him 'haemorrhoid man' because of all the piles. That makes me laugh.

Robbie helps me with my computer and he talks mum into letting me do things when she says no. Sometimes we watch films together, he knows quite a lot about films and so do I. When we argue mum gives Robbie that sort of look that tells you are in big trouble and she asks him "Who's the adult?" He isn't always good at being an adult because he says he is a toyboy. I am not sure what one is really. Action man is a toy and male but Robbie isn't like him, I don't think Robbie likes action stuff and I don't think Action Man knows about trains. The other boy toy is Barbie's boyfriend Ken and he looks a bit gay, mum says that Robbie has a gay walk sometimes but he is not like Ken. Mum told me that Robbie says he is a toyboy to make her feel old, he doesn't need to bother because I make her feel old anyway, she is always telling me that.

Robbie takes me on train journeys, I like that, but I don't see the point in writing down numbers and things like he does. I just like being comfortable on the train with my laptop. We do have lots of things in common. I have to learn not to make people bored by going on and on about Superman and films and stuff. Sometimes mum pretends to go to sleep when I am talking to her. If we ask Robbie about trains we get information overload and mum has to tell Robbie to stop talking because she is losing the will to live. Sometimes when she asks him a question she says she only wants the brief version, but he is not very good at being brief.
