A Long Day 12.11.07

As if the trauma of having to wake up at 5am on a cold autumn morning wasn't bad enough, I found that Robbie was still in 'Victor Meldrew' mode. The world always looks a bit better after a cup of tea and Robbie has sufficient sense of self preservation to ensure that I have a cup of tea to start my day. Somehow the tea didn't have the desired effect this morning and it couldn't compensate for the lure of a warm bed - and the sight of Robbie galloping around in his knickers didn't help either! We were making this stupidly early start just because Robbie wanted to see a different train! I can't even remember what was different about it, I must have stopped listening when he told me that bit! I think it was a new livery or a different sign on the front or something like that, whatever it was Robbie caught a brief glimpse of it as we approached the station and he sped across the car park like a greyhound out of a trap. I hoped a spot of cranking on the way to work would cheer him up, but even then I knew that it was a forlorn hope.

There are several things that are absolutely guaranteed to annoy Robbie and top of the list is to mess with his computer. It seemed the first day of the new regime started badly and went down hill from there as the day progressed. I spoke to him a couple of times during the day - not a pleasant experience! He was up to his eyes with work and he couldn't log on to the computer, to say he was frustrated was the understatement of the year, he had a serious sense of humour failure! He had to stay late because someone from I.T. was trying to sort his computer out. It turned out to be a corrupt file - I'm not surprised it was corrupted, with Robbie in that mood it probably learned a whole new language!!

He finally made his way over to the station, but everything was at a standstill because of a fatality. It seems likely that some poor soul had chosen the first day of the new franchise to throw himself under a train and the whole network seemed to be at a standstill. I always feel sorry for the drivers in these cases, it is a terrible thing to happen.

So Robbie's bad day continued, he's was stranded in Birmingham, his dinner was 'in the dog' and he was cold and miserable. Eventually he made his way home via Milton Keynes and it was past 9pm before he got back. It hadn't improved his mood, in fact on his present form he needs far more than happy pills! Oh well, there's always tomorrow to look forward to!
