When Robbie came home from work on Friday he was unusually attentive - a sure sign that he has either done something wrong or that he is planning something that I may not approve of. It didn't take long for me to be proved correct, he started on this long and contorted explanation of why he should be allowed out to play on Saturday. I wasn't listening carefully enough because I thought he said that he wanted to go and visit a brush factory, he had actually said that he wanted to go to a place called Brush to visit an engine workshop. I reminded him that when he went out last Saturday he promised that this week I would have his undivided attention. He squirmed a bit and talked quite a lot, trying to convinces me that this was an unmissable opportunity. Robbie's undivided attention can be a mixed blessing and is usually quite exhausting, anyway I quite enjoy having a bit of time to myself, so we struck a deal. As long as it didn't involve me getting up early he could go out to play and in return I would have his undivided attention (and lots of cups of tea) before and after his outing.
By his standards Robbie was fairly quiet this morning. We had flashing lights, a repeating alarm clock, a bit of bouncing on the bed and the usual thunderous footsteps, but by Robbie's standards that is not too bad. The most alarming thing was when I plodded along to the bathroom in my sleep, I encounters a Robbie shaped apparition wearing only a shirt - scary! By 7am Robbie had set off for the bus (I know because he shut the front door so noisily that I thought the house might fall down) and I curled up in bed with Radio 4 - bliss!
During the day he sent several texts to tell me about all the fascinating things he had seen, it sounded riveting! When he arrived back I got his undivided attention and lots of tea, but I can't stop him talking! If I had really wanted to know that much about the engine workshop I would have asked to go with him!
