Delayed 07.09.2007

I wonder why even the simplest plans manage to go wrong on a grand scale when you add Robbie to the equation. He was due to have a fasting blood test at the hospital at 7.30am this morning. The blood test bit didn't bother him too much, but the fasting part was a major issue and he had already managed to put off making the appointment for about 3 months. He rearranged his work yesterday so that he could leave at 2.30 to get the train home so that he could eat a proper meal before the 5.30pm deadline. I had decided to cook a roast beef dinner for him, one of his favourites. I had prepared all the vegetables and just put the meat on when I got the first of a series of phone calls from Robbie, there was a delay. The calls continued, bomb scare at Birmingham International - Bomb Squad in attendance - line through international closed - train cancelled - next train cancelled - now the on train but late leaving - behind 'all stopper' delayed further -still at Rugby - should be at Northampton at 18.20ish. It was well after 6.30pm by the time he got home. The rest of us had already eaten, but as Robbie was determined to enjoy his roast dinner (however belatedly)so he had taken the delay as a bad omen and cancelled his blood test. All thoughts of fasting have been banished until next week!
